Regular Program

  • This is a day school (overnight lodging is not provided)

  • Cost: $429.00 + GST (includes jersey).

  • The participants are divided up into groups of 20 based on the level of hockey they are going into in the coming hockey season. Each group has a Group Leader and a Junior Leader that will supervise the participants all day.

  • Grouping: All groups are created using the level of hockey each participants is going into in the hockey season following the hockey school. For example we will have a group of first year atoms, one group of second year atoms and so on. There will be some fine tuning and movement of players to even out group numbers. Because we are a skill based school other participants in the group have no affect as to what each participants gets out of the school. The effort they put in determines that.

  • There are staggered start and end times with start times between 7:30 - 11:00am and end times between 3:30 - 7:30 pm. The youngest groups start and end first and the oldest are the last to start and finish. A typical day is 7-8 hours long. See the hockey school you are interested in for sample schedules.

  • We have the best hockey school staff you will find at any school. They are what make Edge Schools better than the rest. They are on the ice each day instructing all aspects of the game using the latest techniques to help each participant. They are also busy off the ice running our program so the participants get as much off the ice as on.

  • From the minute the participants arrive until they go home they are kept busy with no waiting around time.

    Daily Program Details

  • 2 hours 15 minutes of ice time per day (may increase at some schools). Each participant will have two ice sessions daily. On the ice the groups are divided into 5 different stations. We have a ratio of 8 participants to 1 instructor on the ice. Each station teaches a different skill set. We use the progression system where we start with the basics on Monday and advance throughout the week. All aspects of Skating, passing, shooting, positioning and many other skills will be covered on the ice. Programs are developed according to the age and skill level of each group.

Bodychecking is introduced to the participants that are at that age level (pee wee) or going into that level. Safely is at the forefront here and all of the instructors that teach this station have extensive knowledge in this area.

  • 1 to 1.5 Hours conditioning per day. We use the conditioning to teach the students the basics of conditioning as it applies to hockey. This program is of course designed based on the skill level of the group. We want players to see you do not have to be on the ice all the time to improve their game. We also include team building and ice breakers in this program to help the overall development of each participant. Megan Lodoen, a certified Athletic Therapist runs our conditioning program. She brings her high energy enthusiasm and the latest training ideas with her each and every day.

  • 1 to 1.5 Hours of Read and React per day. This program is set up to teach the students through ball hockey, the systems of hockey and how to react to the different situations on the ice. We have now incorporated a large shooting and stick handling component to this part of the program as well. Again we use the Progression system and start off with the basics on Monday and Advance throughout the week.

  • 30 min to 45 min of Hockey Talk per day. This is a chance for the students to learn more about all aspects of the game through a fun learning environment. Students will learn about hockey equipment, systems and even have a chance to ask some of our pro players questions.

  • 1 hour of Cross Training per day (not offered at all schools). This part of the program is really set up based on the age of each group. The younger players will have some pool time and game time so they have at least an hour a day to just be kids. The older groups take this part of the program more as a time to learn how to train when ice is not available and to avoid burnout.

  • Optional lunch program. This optional hot lunch program is set up as a kid friendly menu. About the mid point of each day each group will take it's turn and get a chance to relax and re-energize themselves. Here are some sample menu items we have had in the past. pasta, chicken fingers, pizza, grill cheese, hamburgers, chili, and much more. Each school will have it's own menu put on by the caterer for that location.

Add $55.00 + GST to the cost if adding the lunch program, if not on the lunch program please bring a packed lunch. Please note we are a peanut free camp, so please do not send any peanuts or products that may contain peanuts.
